Struck By Lightning by Cris Colfer is a book about a high school boy who goes through challenges in his daily life. High school senior Carson Phillips is looking to get into the Northwestern college. Him and his mom live in a small town named Clover. After his mom and dad had a divorce. Carson lives with his mom and visits his sick grandma who has trouble remembering who her grandson is. Carson Phillips goes to Clover High school. Where kids are roaming around freely talking crap and critisizing Carson's every move.
             
                          When Carson is asked to be a teacher for the Writers club. Not many people show up. He meets with Mallerie. Mallerie is one of the girls in Carsons Writing club. Carson and Mallerie try to get as many people as they can into the Writers club. Carson is almost accepted into Northwestern college. He needs for people in the Writers club to bring together pieces they wrote and make a story. After some events occured, Carson makes a float to encourage people to join the Writers club. After the cheerleaders float breaks down and takes advantage of Carson's float.

                           Carson gets sick and tired of him being used by everyone in the school and blackmails everyone. After all the blackmailing had been done, Carson gets Claire the cheerleader to tell everyone to create a story for the thing he needs to get into Northwestern. After the whole story had been put together, Carson then gets invited to a dinner with his dad and his new wife. His dad was pretending to be someone he was not. Carsons dad never played catch with him and the dad made it seem like he did. Carson yells at his dad telling him to stop being what your not. When he goes back to school the next day, Carson hears from a teacher that he got the letter for Northwestern but Carson never got it. Carson then hears that his grandma fell in the hospital and rushed over.
                 
                          At the hospital with his sick grandma after she fell she was confirmed fine. When Carson has a conversation with his Mom. The mom says that she threw out the letter to get into northwestern and said in quote "i was just trying to protect you". Carson rushed out of the hospital in anger and smashed the Clover sign with his umbrella in the outskirts of town.
   
                            Carson goes back to the writers club and realizes he will have to spend another couple of years in a Clover college. Carson goes off to his car to go home when he gets struck by lightning and dies. and that was the book, Struck By Lightning
